The Texas Instruments LM395T/NOPB Protected NPN Power Transistor 36V 2.2A TO-220-3 is a monolithic NPN power transistor/IC with integrated current limiting, power limiting and thermal-overload protection.

Technical description

For the LM395, maximum collector-emitter operating voltage is 36V. In the TO-220 package, collector current is characterized typically up to 2.2A under suitable conditions, while the device includes internal current limiting. Switching time is approximately 500ns and operating temperature is 0-125°C.

Indicative applications

Suitable for protected power stages, lamp/solenoid drivers, switching regulators, relay drivers, motor control and applications requiring a robust power transistor.

Compatibility note

The LM395 is not a simple discrete BJT: it contains active protection and different saturation/current-limit behavior. Replacing it with a conventional NPN requires redesign of protection circuitry.
