The Fairchild Semiconductor LM7812CT Fixed Positive Linear Regulator 12V 1A TO-220 is a fixed 12V positive linear regulator from the LM78XX family in TO-220, providing up to approximately 1A with adequate heatsinking.

Technical description

The LM7812CT includes internal current limiting, thermal shutdown and safe-operating-area protection. Typical application requires input voltage above the output by the required dropout margin and suitable bypass capacitors for stability and transient response.

Indicative applications

Suitable for fixed 12V rails, logic/control supplies, audio circuits, instrumentation and servicing legacy electronic equipment.

Compatibility note

Important correction: the Fairchild LM7812CT is a 1A-class regulator, not 2A. Near 1A load current, adequate heatsinking and power-dissipation checks are required.
