The National Semiconductor LM3915 10-Step 3dB/Step Dot/Bar Display Driver 3-25V DIP-18 is a 10-step logarithmic display-driver IC for LEDs, with 3dB per step and selectable dot or bar display mode.

Technical description

The LM3915 covers a 30dB display range and directly drives 10 LEDs without individual series resistors. It includes an internal voltage reference, programmable LED current of approximately 1-30mA, single-supply operation from 3-25V and cascade capability for wider displays.

Indicative applications

Suitable for VU meters, audio level meters, signal-level indicators, logarithmic displays, battery/level indicators and analog LED displays.

Compatibility note

The LM3915 is logarithmic at 3dB/step and is not equivalent to the linear LM3914. For replacement, verify the DIP-18 pinout, mode pin and required LED current.
