OEML298N Dual board
The L298N Dual H-Bridge Motor Driver Module is a motor-control board that allows independent control of two DC motors or one bipolar stepper motor. It is suitable for Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, robotics, automation and motion-control projects.
Technical description
The board is based on the L298N integrated circuit, which contains two complete H-Bridge drivers. Each bridge can control the rotational direction of one DC motor, while the Enable A and Enable B inputs allow motor-speed control using PWM signals.
The IN1 and IN2 inputs control motor A, while the IN3 and IN4 inputs control motor B. The OUT1 and OUT2 terminals connect to the first motor, while OUT3 and OUT4 connect to the second motor.
The module operates with a motor supply voltage of 5-35VDC and uses 5V control logic. The L298N features TTL-compatible inputs and can be controlled by most microcontroller boards using 3.3V or 5V logic.
The board includes an onboard 78M05 voltage regulator and a 5V enable jumper. When the motor supply voltage is up to 12VDC, the jumper can remain installed and the regulator supplies the internal logic circuit.
When the motor supply voltage is higher than 12VDC, the 5V jumper must be removed and the logic circuit must be powered from an external regulated 5V supply through the corresponding terminal.
Integrated protection diodes suppress the reverse voltages generated by the motor windings. The metal heatsink assists with thermal dissipation during operation.
Typical applications
Suitable for robotic vehicles, DC motors, bipolar stepper motors, STEM training projects, motion mechanisms, automation systems, remote-controlled projects and direction or speed-control applications.
Current rating note
The maximum rated output current is up to 2A per channel with suitable cooling. Actual continuous-current capability depends on the supply voltage, cooling, operating temperature and voltage drop across the driver circuit.
Connection note
The motor power-supply ground must be connected to the microcontroller ground. The motors must not be powered directly from the 5V output of an Arduino or another microcontroller board.
Package note
The package includes only the L298N motor-driver module. Motors, power supply and connection wires are not included.
