OEMSERVO MG996R 180 degrees
MG996R high torque 180 degrees digital servo motor with metal gears, suitable for Arduino, robotics applications, robot arms, motion mechanisms, RC models and electronic projects requiring a powerful positional servo.
The MG996R is a high torque servo motor with metal gears, suitable for applications requiring more force than a small SG90-type micro servo. It operates from 4.8-6.6V DC and is controlled by a standard PWM servo signal from Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi Pico or a compatible microcontroller. The operating angle is approximately 0-180 degrees, with torque up to 11kg-cm at 6V.
Technical description
The MG996R features a metal gear set, JR-type servo plug and approximately 32cm cable. Operating speed is approximately 0.19sec/60 degrees at 4.8V and 0.15sec/60 degrees at 6V, while stall current can reach approximately 1400mA. For stable operation, a separate 5V or 6V power supply with sufficient current is recommended, especially under load.
Typical applications
Suitable for robot arms, pan-tilt mechanisms, RC models, steering mechanisms, Arduino projects, automation systems, educational builds, STEM projects, locking mechanisms, small joints and applications requiring a high torque positional servo.
Compatibility note
The MG996R is an approximately 0-180 degrees positional servo and is not a continuous rotation servo. The PWM signal controls shaft position, not continuous rotation speed. Powering the servo directly from the Arduino 5V pin is not recommended under load, because the servo may require high current. Common ground must be used between the servo power supply and the microcontroller.
